Outdoor sports is not everyone's cup of tea. Some people enjoy sitting at home and indulging themselves at board games. Well, some people like mind games like Chess and make it their passion for life! Passion Connect got in touch with an enthusiastic FIDE certified chess coach who says he knows how a chess player’s mind works.

It began as just to hone his skills

Talking to Praveen Sagar, we learned that he developed his interest in chess as early as seven! He says it was just a game back then and he just wanted to play it to improve his mental skills. But as he grew up his interest and keenness in the game mounted and he realized this game has more benefits on the cognitive level and could help himself and many children in their everyday life too.

His family as his backbone

Being a FIDE certified chess player, Praveen has an academy of his own called Mind Mentors, which teaches chess to students and chess enthusiasts. Asking about how supportive from his family is for pursuing a unique passion, Praveen said his family is super supportive, so much so that the academy is run by them! The academy teaches chess from the beginner to the advanced level and having his family's support in this has been just great!

Focus on developing skills

Praveen strongly believes the game of chess which taps on cognitive skills and memory skills will be of great importance in the future too. He points out the expectations, the society poses from the kids, can be met with chess as it develops life skills among them. Something to help kids with their everyday activities and to help them make them smarter in various areas of life, all in all, it helps students to shape their mind.

Improve your Problem-solving skills

Praveen highlights the other activities that are conducted in his Academy which includes solving Rubik’s cube and Robotics. Their main agenda is to improve problem-solving skills among kids. He strongly believes that chess has its attributions in everyday life as well. It also majorly focuses on problem-solving skills. Quizzes and puzzles are part of the curriculum we get to see which help a great deal in bettering their chess game.

Learning from one’s flaws

Crossing a rating above 2000 on FIDE in chess.com is an achievement that Praveen says that took him a lot of efforts to make it happen. Being dedicated and to always learn from the mistakes and flaws is the key to be patient and be successful. Praveen who is a self-taught chess player recalls his struggles having no one to teach him. He has realized how hard he had to work to reach such a feat. But he too believes that passion and dedication go hand in hand and enforces the same among his students.

Analysing mistakes in the past games is the key to improving oneself says Praveen. His father being his inspiration, he wishes to pass down the same passion and develop skills and help kids in today's busy life. Those who wish to improve your thinking skills and not like going outdoors much for it, this is an interesting way to get those brain muscles working!
