Women are always accused of being over expressive, whiny, and cranky - all the negative adjectives just to be blunt to all their emotions. I think it takes courage to be open to your emotions and girls have it more than men. Women don’t need to be good actresses to demonstrate their feelings with tears, facial expressions, hand gestures, and body language; they just have the talent to express it naturally when exposed to any emotions.
Scientific Reasons Behind Women’s Tears
The perception that women cry more than men are pretty widespread, majorly stereotyped. As babies and children, boys and girls cry about the same amount on average. To my experience, I think boys as a child are more of cry-babies. After or during puberty, all of this takes a role reversal.
A possible explanation for this is the hormone prolactin, which contributes to how much people cry. Prolactin is present in blood and tears, and it's more prevalent in women than in men. Women's tear channels are also shaped a little differently from men's, which could be either a cause or an effect of increased crying. Two-thirds of people diagnosed each month with depression are women.
Societal Reasons For Women’s Emotions
Society plays a major role in any sort of change in our personality or behaviour. Society always from the beginning of time has portrayed men are somebody strong and powerful who are not allowed to show their emotions in public but solve it on their own. On the other hand, women are considered weak and definitely not capable of taking care of themselves, so they need to express their feelings and emotions for men to sympathize them. Crying is highly discouraged - a woman who cries in the office may be viewed as weak or ineffectual.
Are Men Emotionless?
“Men don’t cry!” I am not quite sure who has discovered the phrase and the reason behind it; it’s a famous dialogue in most of the movies or TV series. This has somewhere influenced men right from their puberty. They consider showing emotion is a weak act, but it would be a lie if we say men don’t cry. Shedding of tears comes naturally, just that men have more control over their tears. But this does not give them an upper hand over women. In fact, nothing does!
Men have more heart attacks than women; it is because they keep their emotions bottled up within them which affect them physically. This is another reason why men get angry faster. The bottled up emotions come out as their anger. Hence, aren’t women better? Opening your thoughts and emotions out in the open can be beneficial for a safe relationship, and not letting them destroy you.
Emotions Are Scary To Men
It is interesting to note that women think and feel at the same time, while men can only think or feel. Men’s biggest fear is to embrace their feminine side hence they try their level best to stay in their heads. In a relationship, when a woman wants to talk or have a discussion, the guy usually call it quits because he realizes that he has to think and feel at the same time, just the idea becomes a challenge for him. Now you know why men have a harder time talking about their feelings? They have to switch gears from their head to their hearts.
“He Just Won’t Talk” – Common Complaint Against Men
Even when God made man and woman to pair up with each other, he created these two species differently. While women tend to talk faster when they get excited and may interrupt their partners who are struggling to find the right words. Due to this interruption, their male counterparts may lose track of what they were saying not because they are annoyed, but because they feel cut off and were unable to express what they were feeling. Men find it difficult to attach words to their emotions and getting back on track in an emotional conversation can be very difficult for them. They say understanding women is difficult but understanding men is equally difficult especially when it comes to emotional issues. So women, don’t get over-excited. Control your feelings to let these men express their emotions.
Men Act While Women Talk
Since women are high on their emotions, it gets difficult for them to control their anger or negative feelings. They intend on talking things out which eventually leads to an outburst of emotions, while men’s brains are wired for action during high emotion. A man instinctively knows when his anger is likely to lead to action; hence he tries to stop it going that far by putting a lid it on it. This is one reason why men walk out when they can’t control their emotions anymore as they know the circumstances.
Men and women are created differently and as individuals, we should respect it. There might be psychological or scientific reasons behind the arousal of emotions but at the end of the day, emotion is something constant and remains there for both the parties. Many men don’t shy from expressing their emotions while many girls tend to be really hard on them hiding their emotions. Emotion especially negative is such a strong feeling that shouldn’t be hidden, as the consequences might not be congenial.
